Where are we?

Viña Real is located on the ´ Cerro de la Mesa´ hill, Rioja Alavesa. The soils of this area are composed of the best properties for the growing of the Tempranillo grape variety together with an optimum microclimate. In this cellar, the French architect Philippe Mazieres, has been able to combine the concepts of man, nobility and modernity with the use of concrete, wood and stainless-steel, the main components of this new cellar.

At Viña Real we have the best vision of the most attractive asset of Rioja Alavesa, the vineyards. The vineyards run from the Cantabria mountains all the way to the river Ebro, with southern exposed slopes.

WHAT IS IT?

Viña Real is a winery designed for the production, aging and bottling of the Viña Real range of wines, using the most innovative methods of production. This brand was developed by Cuné in 1920 . Eighty years later, Cuné took the decision to create this new winery.

In this winery Cvne displays one of its main characteristics, the innovation. It conjugates its 125 years of experience with the most innovative procedures.

Viña Real is composed of an enormous building in the shape of an oak vat, of Red Cedar wood from Canada, a building and two enormous tunnels drilled inside the hill.

The vat is divided in to two levels, on the upper level is the vinification winery with its state-of-the-art technology, including the first 2 vertical hoppers installed in Spain and the spectacular central crane for the use of gravity vinification.

On the lower level there is the circular barrel room. This vinification plant is linked to the bottling line and aging tunnels. 

Our wines

Viña Real is one of the first brands to produce age worthy wines in Rioja Alavesa province.

In 1920 the first Viña Real wines were launched. These wines were produced from grapes grown around Elciego, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa province. These vineyards, to this day are still controlled by Viña Real and continue to border the ´Camino Real´ or ´Royal Drive´; hence the origin of the Viña Real name.

The Viña Real wines are modern in structure, balance and elegance, with a potential for very long aging in bottle, this last being the main characteristic of the Rioja Alavesa province.  These wines are elaborated mainly with grapes of the variety Tempranillo, variety that has adapted perfectly to the Rioja Alavesa. The tempranillo grape is a variety that displays a great capacity to elaborate wines destined for aging.
